UPDATED 11/13/23

Members of Laguna Chinese Baptist Church,

As a church, we have been learning from the Bible what biblical church leadership looks like. At this current time, our church constitution does not include the office of elder as outlined in the Bible. The church constitution revision committee has proposed to revise our church’s constitution to include the office of elder and provided a draft of an updated constitution with the appropriate revisions. The committee has also included an additional document that outlines the roles and responsibilities of elders at our church. Both proposed documents have been approved by our church council.

The decision to revise of our church constitution and create the office of elder within our church lies in the hands of our church members. We have presented the church constitution drafts for your review in hopes that we would vote as a church membership at our Annual Church Members Meeting on December 17, 2023.

We hosted two town hall meetings, one on November 5th and another on the 12th, to received feedback and questions for our church members. As a result of the feedback, we have two minor grammar changes to be made, which we will submit for approval at our upcoming December council meeting. If you missed the town halls and still have questions or comments, you can send an email to information@lagunabaptist.org.

If you send over any feedback or comments between now and the Annual Church Members Meeting, please note that not all feedback may be accepted or adopted into the constitution revisions. However, the committee will take all suggestions into consideration.

The next step in the process is our upcoming Annual Church Members Meeting on December 17, 2023, where our church members will vote whether to accept the proposed revisions or not. We encourage all members to attend and participate in the vote. Please note that we do not plan to include a discussion time in the December 17 meeting because the town hall meetings were designed to serve as discussion times for our members.

Regards,

The Constitution Revision Committee
